Innovation

Matrix engineers wanted to develop a new innovative product, which would provide students with a hands-on understanding of the key principles in fluid mechanics. However, they relied on 3rd party companies to manufacture their key components, which was leading to delays and quality issues, diminishing the quality of the service they were providing to customers. To alleviate both the time and quality issues, the company invested in a robotic manufacturing line to bring their manufacturing in-house. To complete their production line, and to be able to manufacture their new product, they also needed to invest in a specialist CNC (computer numerical control) metal press brake machine.

Business growth

The company were awarded a £20,000 PAPI grant to purchase the CNC machine. The new machinery enabled Matrix to bring the manufacturing of parts of their mechanical and electromechanical products in house which allowed them to develop and launch their Fundamental Fluids product.

Bringing the manufacturing process in house also allowed them to speed up product development, making them stand out from competitors with long lead times.

The launch of the new product meant an increase in turnover and profit, and also created 6 new jobs within the business.
